William H. Stage

Birth name was William H Stage. Enlisted 14 Aug 1862 as Private, Capt. Irwin's Company, 149th Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry. Discharged from military service on 29 Sept 1863 at McLennan U.S. Army Military Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Discharge was on orders of Lewis Taylor, Surgeon in Charge. Family story is that William changed his name after that time. He had poor lungs, probably tuberculosis. He spent most of his later years in Greeley, Colorado, returning to Illinois to visit his family. When his wife filed for a pension based on his service, his father was still living and signed an affidavit that William H Stage was his son and that he went by the the name William Frantsie Littliefied. His widow was able to obtain a pension based on his service according to the records in the National Archives.
