1884: Douglass Township, Berks County, PA

Know all men by these presents that I George YORGEY of Douglass Township Berks County and State of PA do make and publish this my last will and testament as follows.
1st It is my will that my just debts be duly paid and satisfied.
2nd I give and devise to my friend Henry E. RHOADS, all my plantation or farm where on I now reside, containing eighty eight acres more or less, to his heirs and assigns forever together with all my stock on the farm and also all my household goods, he paying out to my wife Sallie five hundred dollars within one year after my decease, except that in case my said wife Sallie should take the $300 Law then she shall only have two hundred dollars. There shall be delivered to my said wife Sallie, out of my farm annually, six bushels rye, six bushels of corn, also furnish stable room for one cow, hay and pasture for the same as good as those of the owner and or occupier of my said farm and necessary attendance to said cow, one fourth of garden and sufficient manure for the same also the privilege for my said wife Sallie to have two rooms in the first floor of my house, her choice, also privilege in the cellar and to pass and re-pass in and out of the house and over said premises as often as maybe required said privileges my said wife shall have and may enjoy so long as she desires to remain on said premises.
3rd It is my will that my said wife Sallie shall have all the household goods and furniture, she brought to me, all of which bequests herein above mentioned to be in lieu of her dower and thirds out of my estate.
4th I hereby constitute and appoint my nephew Ephraim R. YORGEY to be the Executor of this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me made and ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament.
Lastly - Having now disposed of my worldly estate to the best of my judgement, I commit my body to the earth and my soul into the hands of my Creator who gave it in confidence of his mercy through the merits of my Savior Jesus Christ.

I George YORGEY, the within named Testator, do hereby make and publish this codicil, to be added to my last Will and Testament bearing date the 14th day of September A.D. 1880; in manner following:
I revoke so much of my said will as appoints my newphew Ephraim R. YORGEY my Executor and do nominate and appoint my friend Thomas G. RUTTER, to be the Executor of this my last Will and Testament and hereby ratify and confirm my said will in all other respects. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 28th day of November A.D. 1883.

Registers Office Berks County SS: Presented and approved by J.M SCHOLLENBERGER, Register on Dec. 29, 1884 as the last Will and Testament and codicil annexed of George YORGEY, testator as sworn to by D.B. MAUGER and Jeremiah YOCUM, who appeared in person as witnesses.

Goods, chattels, rights, and credits with a total of $274.97.
Contributors Note: Henry E. RHOADS who received the George YORGEY farm as per George's will, was married to Sarah Reifsnyder YORGEY, neice of George YORGEY and sister to the first executor of George's will, Ephraim YORGEY. Sarah was the daughter of George's brother Jacob and his wife Sarah REIFSNYDER.
Henry E. RHOADS, the son of Charles August ROTH and Margaretta EGOLF, was born and raised in Douglass Township. In 1857 Henry began farming for himself in Douglass Township on the Jacob YORGEY farm. Henry E. RHOADS tenanted the George YORGEY farm for twenty-seven years prior to the death of George YORGEY.
