1908: Reading, Berks County, PA
I, Rebecca Riegel, wife of John H. Riegel, of the city of Reading, in the County of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, being of sound disposing mind and memory, and considering the uncertainly of life, do make this, my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me heretofore made.
I give and bequeath to my daughter, Mary, who has faithfully assisted me in my household duties, all my china, silverware and other articles, used as furnishings or ornaments in my residence at the time of my decease, to use and possess the same during the term of her natural life, and after her death to be divided equally between my children then living, and the child or children of any deceased child or children, such child or children of a deceased child or children to take their share which their parents would have recieved had they survived; and the articles to be divided on the basics of their valuation as will appear in the inventory and appraisement of my estate.
I direct my hereinafter named Executors to invest the sum of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) and pay the income thereof to my daughter, Mary, during the term of her natural life, and upon her decease, to divide the principal equally between my children then living, and the child or children of any deceased child or children, any grand-children to take the share which their parents would have recieved had they survived.
Fearing that my husband, through pressure of business and other engagements, might neglect to attend, within a reasonable time, to having a head-stone elected at my grave, I direct my Executors to purchase and cause to be erected a head-stone, with suitable inscriptions, the same not to cost over Seventy-five Dollars ($75.00) should no head-stone have been erected by my husband within one year form the time of my death.
All the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, real, personal or mixed, wheresoever the same may be, I give, devise and bequeath unto my children, living at the time of my decease, and the child or children of any deceased child or children, in equal shares; recieved had they survived.
I nominate, constitute and appoint my son William W. Riegel, and my daughter-in-law, Anna Riegel, wife of Dr. Walter S. Riegel, the executors of this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand, this twenty-fifth day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eight. (1908).
