1867 Ontelaunee Twp
I Valentine Hartman of the Township of Ontelaunee in the County of Berks and State of Pennsylvania do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following is to say.
That nothing of my Real or personal property shall be appraised, I give devise and bequeath all to my beloved wife Elizabeth the Plantation on which we now reside situate in the Township of Ontelaunee and containing one hundred and sixteen acres more or less and nine acres of Chestnut woodland in the Township of Alsace, County aforesaid. And all my Bonds and Notes and all my live stock one horse, cattle, swine etc. Also all the household furniture and other item not particular named in this my last will during her natural life. And she shall have a right to keep hands men and maids to do her work and repair and build on said property during her life.
And after her death all the property hereby devised or bequeathed to her shall be sold at public sale and all the income therefore shall be divided. Namely the one half thereof to my eight brothers and sisters or to their heirs, in eight shares share and share alike and the other half to my wife’s brothers and sisters or to their heirs in four shares share and share alike. Witness my hand and seal this seventh day of April AD one thousand eight hundred and fifty six.
I hereby constitute and appoint my brother Peter Hartman and David B Klein to be the Executors of this my last Will and Testament.

This twenty-fourth day of August 1867 before one Dep. Register for the Probate of Wills in and for said County of Berks, personally came David Dewald and Tobias Clauser, the subscribing witnesses to the above Will and being duly sworn according to law did dispose and say, that they were present and saw and heard Valentine Hartman the testator sign, seal, publish, pronounce and declare the foregoing instrument of writing as and for his last Will and Testament and that at the time of so doing he was of sound mind, memory and understanding, to the best of their knowledge, observation and belief.
