In the Name of God Amen, I Sophia Schmeck of the City of Reading, County of Berks and the State of Pennsylvania, Wife of James M. Schmeck, Being in good health and sound disposing mind, memory and understanding and knowing the uncertainty of the transitory Life, do make publish this as my last Will and testament in manner and form to wit.
Item it is my Will that after my decease, to order and direct that my body shall be buried in a decent and Christian like manner by my herein after mentioned Executor. I do order and direct that my just debts and funeral expenses shall be paid in a reasonable time after my death by my executor.
Item for Love I do give devise and bequeath unto my husband James M. Schmeck all my Real Estate, so that he shall take and hold the same to him, his heirs and assigns in fee simple, and he shall have the full and whole control of the same with the right to make and execute deeds in fee simple, concerning the same by good and valued (?????) to purchasers, if my daughter Clara should out live my husband, James M. Schmeck with heirs, I give and devise to her & her heirs, the house that we now occupy on Penn Street.
Item I give and bequeath unto my husband James M. Schmeck all my estate, real, personal and mixed so that he shall have take and hold the same to himself absolutely. And he shall have the right to claim from the executors of my father Jacob Dick deceased the full amount that I am entitled to receive from the executors and to collect the same for his own use.
And lastly I do hereby, nominate and appoint my husband James M. Schmeck to be my executor of this my last will and testament, revoking all former wills by me made and declaring this and no other to be my last Will and Testament and Witness my hand and seal this eighth day of January one thousand eight hundred and seventy.
