Last Will and Testament of Jacob Ringler

Reading 1873

Know all men by these presents that I Jacob Ringler of the City of Reading, County of Berks and state of Pennsylvania, Carpenter, being of sound disposing mind and memory do publish this my last Will and Testament.

First, I give and bequeath to my daughter Sophia wife of John Bechtel, her heirs or assigns, all that certain two story brick house and brick kitchen attached and lot of ground situate on the north side of Chestnuts Street No. 117 in the city of Reading, containing in front on said Chestnut Street 19 ½ feet, said lot running through of equal width to Grape Alley including part of stable thereon erected. In consideration of the above bequest it is my will that the said Sophia her heirs or assigns, pay to the estate the sum of One Hundred Dollars, and my son Daniel the sum of Six hundred Dollars.

Second, I give and bequeath to my son Daniel Ringler, all my right and interest in a building to be erected on his lot, now contracted for, to be out of my estate if not paid for previous to my decease. Also, the sum of Six Hundred Dollars which amount shall be paid him by my daughter Sophia to the said Daniel Ringler his heirs or assigns. It is my will that the said Daniel Ringler receive 6 per cent interest on the amount (viz: $36.00 per annum), but in case of physical disability he may have part of the principal from time to time in such sums as may be needful for useful purpose.

Third, I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah wife of Joel Sharman, the sum of Eleven Hundred Dollars.

Forth, I give and bequeath to my son Septimus Ringler, the sum of Eleven Hundred Dollars.

Fifth, I give and devise to my daughter Jamima Ringler, her heirs and assigns, the new brick house and lot of ground adjoining House and Lot No. 117 on the west, containing in front on Chestnut Street13 ½ feet, said lot running through of equal width to Grape Alley, including, part of stable. Also the right and interest in the brick wall of House No. 117 on the west as a part wall over joint alley.

Sixth, I give and devise to my daughter Rebecca wife of Charles Armbruster, her heirs and assigns the new brick house and lot of ground west of the property above, described, containing in front on Chestnut Street 13 ½ feet, said lot running through of equal width to Grape Alley. The house to be rented for the benefit of the estate until the amount owing the estate shall be cancelled, the said Charles Armbruster may occupy said premises by making satisfactory arrangements with the other heirs of the estate.

Seventh, I give and devise to my daughter Drucilla wife of Benneville Pike her heirs or assigns the new brick house and lot of ground (House No 113) containing in front on Chestnut Street 13 ½ feet, and running through of equal width to Grape Alley.

Eighth, After all my lawful debts are paid I will that the remainder of my effects be sold and be equally divided to my sons and daughters.

Ninth, Any of my heirs that may be dissatisfied with this my last Will and Testament shall not have my portion thereof, and that the said portion or portions be sold and equally divided to my other heirs.

Tenth, I ordain and appoint my nephew Israel W Ringler, as Executor of this my last Will and Testament.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, and publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament, in presence of witnesses named below this Twentieth day of March in the year of Our Lord, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy Two.

Signed, Sealed, Published and Declared by the said Jacob Ringler, as and for his last Will and Testament, in the presence of us, who at his request and in his presence , and in the presence of each other, have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto

Registers Office Berks County SS. On the 20th day of March 1873. Before me H S Getz Deputy Register of Wills personally appeared Peter D Getz one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will, being duly sworn according to law did dispose and say that he was present and did see and hear Jacob Ringler the testator sign seal publish and declare the foregoing instrument of writing as and for his last will and testament at the time of so doing he was of sound mind memory and understanding to the best of his knowledge observation and belief. Henry Frederick the other subscribing witness having since died. Peter D Getz and John W Ringler having been duly sworn and examined as to the signature of Henry Frederick, did depose and say that they are well acquainted with the hand writing of the said Henry Frederick, that they have often seen him write his name and that they verily belief the signature purposing to be his, to be his own proper handwriting.
