Last Will and Testament of George Heckman

In the name of God Amen, I George Heckman of Spring Township, Berks County and State of Pennsylvania being of sound mind, memory and understanding, do make and publish this as and for my last will and testament, in the manner and form following to wit:

First I order and direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon as convenient after my decease.

Item I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary all necessary house and kitchen furniture also the buggy and harness.

As touching the rest residue and remainder of my estate be it real personnel or mixed. I order and direct my hereinafter named executors to convert the same to money and out of the proceeds if my beloved wife should desire to purchase a home for herself, she shall be at liberty to do so at a sum not exceeding two thousand dollars: but if she should not desire to do so then the whole of the proceeds shall be invested on first mortgage security, the interest of which shall be payable to my beloved wife during life and after her decease said principal sum to my daughter Emma intermarried with Henry Faust, her heirs and assigns forever.

Item If my son in law Henry Faust should desire to purchase a farm in the event of my beloved wife refusing to purchase a home for herself, then he shall be at liberty to use said money giving therefore a first mortgage to my said wife Mary – the interest of which shall be payable to her my said wife during her life and after her decease the principal sum to my said daughter Emma intermarried with Henry Faust her heirs and assigns forever.

And Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my said wife Mary and my son in law Henry Faust to be the executors of this my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this 8th day of June A.D. 1883.

Signed Sealed published and declared by the above named George Heckman as to be his last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request have hereunto set our names as witnesses hereto in his presence and of each other.

On the 10th day of February A.D.1893 before me personally appeared William A H Schmehl one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will of George Heckman deceased, and on his solemn affirmation did say that he was present and did see and hear George Heckman deceased – the Testator therein named sign, seal publish and declare the same as and for his last will and testament and at the time of the doing thereof he was of sound disposing mind memory and understanding to the best of his knowledge and belief.

There personally appeared William A H Schmehl and Milford N Ritter who being duly affirmed according to Law, say they were well acquainted with William S Ritter one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will and testament of George Heckman deceased and are familiar with his signature having frequently seen him write his name as well as other matters that they carefully examined the foregoing signature and verily believe ot to be in his own proper hand writing.
