To the honorable Justices of ye Peace at ye Court of Quarter Sessions held at Philada. March ye 3d 1744, the petition of ye Inhabitants of Amity humbley sheweth that about twenty fives years since the inhabitants of that 10,000 acres of land lyings up Schuylkill, called ye Sweeds Tract, requested this court that they might be erected into a Township under ye name of Amity. Which was accordingly done and a Constable & other necessary officers appointed. But since that time we have made search in ye Records of this court and cannot find that ever it was recorded. By reason whereof we have suffered great hardship and they are like still to continue by reason of Large Bodys of Lands etc. that by without ye bounds of ye said 10,000 acres. Not as yet erected any township, and others said to be within ye laid bounds which we presume are not. Wherefore your Petitioners Humbley pray that you would be pleased to ye former order draught thereof being hereunto annexed. And your Petitioners as in duty bound shall ever pray, etc.
