Generation No. 1

1.   John/Johann Conrad1 Bobb was born 1715 in Germany, and died 1760. He married Elizabeth Stauffer 1737. She was born 1715, and died December 27, 1774.
Notes for John/Johann Conrad Bobb
   The research for the descendants of Conrad (Popp) Bobb has been a frustrating experience because of the many ways in which the name is spelled, the custon of using the same first and second names generation after generation, and the fact that it was frequently common to use only the second (rufnamen) instead of the first name. Also, the inaccuracy of recorded data is amazing. For example, people were buried before they die, have childern after they die,and frequently conduct other activities before they are born. At any rate, a very exhaustive search of the records at the Berks County Court House at Reading the Berks County Historical Society, Montgomery County Historical Society, Schwenkfelder Library, Lancaster County Historical Society, Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Phildelphia City Hall, Allentown Court House, Strassburger's List of German Immigrants and the consultations with several local historians, leads to the conclusion that the results which I have tabulated are accurate. By the process of elimination, people with similar names have been discarded because of spouses names, dates or for other reasons.
    Johann Conrad Pop arrived on the Snow Molly on October 26 1741. His age is listed in the manifest as 26 years. He had already be married to Elizabeth Stauffer, but the manifest does not list her name. In 1744, he purchased our property from Christian Beidler and also purchased 154 acres in Douglas Township, Philadelphia (now Montgomery) County. In addition, he purchased some 300 acres in Alsace Township, Berks County. His occupation is consistently given as "Weaver". His son, Joahann Conrad came to America on the ship Henrietta on October 22 1754 and lived on the Alsace property, although the tax records show that he was assessed to his father in 1754. Both father and son were weavers or tailors. Conrad, Sr. died in 1760 without a will and surveyor Schultz`s notes state that the settlement of his estate was extremly difficult. Son Conrad kept the Alsace property, being entitled to a double share as eldest child. Son Abraham kept 1/2 of the Douglass property, the other 1/2 being conveyed to the executors of Elizabeth Sauffer`s second husband, Casper Moyer, who died in1761 soon after she had remarried. Son Daniel bought out the interest of his brothers and sister so that in this way the estate was finally settled intra-family, but this deed was never recorded until 1913 although dated 1774 The only discrepancies that exsit in connection with the recitals in the deed are that son John lived in Douglass Township instead of Alsace and that the deed is dated some 4 years after he died. The first can be explained, however, by the fact that there are other errors in the drafting of the deed and that Elizabeth apparently did live in Douglass Township since she was assessed there. A comparison of the signatures of grand son John George and the signature on the deed leads to the conclusion that he did sign his father`s name. His mother may have been present, but her signature is by mark.
   The above notes were taken from Mr Hyde W Ballard in his Research of Ancestors of Levina Babb Ball. The land he bought from Christian Beidler had a mill in what is now known as Forge Dale on Dale Forge in Washington Township Township, Berks, County,Pa. He died intestate, but the mill continued to be operated by his son Daniel, Sr. when he sold it to his son Daniel, Jr. The Bapp(Bobb) mill is about 1/2 mile above Barto on the north branch of the Perkiomen Creek. When the mill was enlarged and need of repairs the man secured was Issac Kummenr . He worked all winter at Bobb home. In the spring he married oldest daughter, Elizabeth
Note:. A 34 Acre property was purchased in Herferd Township., Patent Book "H" #5 P511. A 130 acre property was purchased by Daniel Bobb, (Sr. ?) Bobb MillThe mill property John Conrad bought in 1744, paid 345 lb,10 shillings he made a down payment of 80 lbs., with a mortgage of 172 lb, 10 shillings. Phila. Deed Book "G" Page 24. May 17 1750, paid off mortgage. Served in the Rev War in Cap. Strouse Co ?, John Conrad sold land in Oley Twsp. to Henry Linbach & wife Salome ? The above information was copied from the "Bobb" family Bible owned Elizabeth Bobb daughter of Abraham H. Bobb and wife Margareth Bobb. Elizabeth Bobb was never married As youngster Carl W. Sust I remember as living in Pensburg Pa. We have found part of a will of Abraham Harp (Herb) dated Oct 20 1813 & Dec 13 1813 . It provides for his wife; Est. equaly among six childern, Elizabeth wife of Peter Hank, Anna wife of Daniel Bobb ,Jr., Catharine, Susanna wife of Henry Derr, Mary etc. ------.Vol 2, 305.
