Dr. Albert R. Potteiger, who since 1892 has been practising as a veterinarian in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, is prominent in affairs there and has held many local offices. He is now Democratic candidate for mayor, an office which he filled for one term previously in very able manner. He is a son of Daniel Potteiger, born near Strausstown, Pennsylvania, and Anna (Heilig) Potteiger, born at Shartlesville, Pennsylvania, both parents now dead. The elder Mr. Potteiger was a miller by occupation.
Albert R. Potteiger was born in Shartlesville, January 17, 1869. He attended the public schools of Bernville and Strausstown, Pennsylvania, and the Ontario Veterinary College at Toronto, from which he graduated in 1891 with the degree of Veterinary Surgeon. The following year he came to Selinsgrove and started practice as a veterinarian, and has continued that practice ever since. Since 1918 Dr. Potteiger's son, Dr. R. J. Potteiger, has been associated with him as partner, and the two men practice as Potteiger & Son, Veterinarians. Dr. R. J. Potteiger is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.
A strong Democrat in politics, Dr. Potteiger served for one term as mayor of Selinsgrove and has held office as a member of the School Board, serving in the latter position for four terms, or about sixteen years. At present he is candidate for mayor on the Democratic ticket. He is one of the organizers and directors of the Farmer's National Bank of Selinsgove, Pennsylvania. Fraternally Dr. Potteiger is affiliated with the Masonic Order, being a member of the Blue Lodge and having held all offices, and he is a Modern Woodman, and also a Granger. He holds membership in both the State and Central Pennsylvania Veterinary societies, and his religious connections are with the First Lutheran Church of Selinsgrove.
Dr. Potteiger married, in 1894, at Kleinfeltersville, Pennsylvania, Tillie Bedger, the daughter of David Bedger, and they were the parents of the following children: Anna, Robert, Albert, Mildred, John, and Helen.
