The pages immediately following are devoted to a series of brief historical sketches and illustrations of old-time scenes.
And, to show the contrast between the times of long ago and those of today, the identical present day scenes, etc., are also pictured, wherever possible.
This joint showing of the old and the new emphasizes in a striking manner the changes that have taken place.
It shows, furthermore, that in all Reading has kept pace with other and larger cities in the country and has set the pace for other cities in her size class.
