Official Program of the 175th Anniversary of the Founding of Reading

Levi W. Mengel

The occasion of the 175th Anniversary of our City should not be passed by without referring to one of our native sons, who has done much to create and foster a taste and love for the beautiful.

Mr. Mengel's modesty will not permit him to tell of the great work which, under his direction, is being done in order that the citizens of Reading and visitors may enjoy the beauties of art, the wonders of nature and marvel at the mysteries of science.

The Reading Museum and Art Gallery is largely the work of Mr. Mengel. The present proportions of the Museum are the result of his steady endeavor. We honor ourselves as citizens in commending one who has worked so zealously for the cause that will mean much to future generations of our beautiful City.
