No appointment connected with the preparation for the Anniversary was made with the unanimity that marked the selection of Cyrus T. Fox as Historian. It was universally felt that it was a task that he alone was qualified to do with the thoroughness desired. No other man in Reading possesses as intimate a knowledge of the history of the City from its birth to the present. The many special articles that have been published by him during his long and useful life on matters connected with Reading makes in themselves a history of greatest value. It is hard to resist the temptation to distort Goldsmith:
"And still the wonder grows,
That one small head can carry all he knows."
