E-mail: Charles Roller
Query: Lutheran Minister Henry Melchoir Muhlenberg and
son, John Peter Gabriel Muhlenberg, ministered in Pennsylvania and
Virginia through much of the mid to late 1700s. Can anyone shed some
light on their ancestry in Germany? Are they related to George
Muhlberger from Germany, whose daughter, Anna Christina Muhlberger
married John Peter Rollard, at Oberhausen, Oberamt Meisenheim, Germany on
April 26, 1718?
Friend and colleague of the famous Lutheran Minister John Peter Gabriel
Muhlenberg, Lutheran Minister Conrad Roller (Roeller) ministered at
Indianfield, Old Goshenhoppen, and Tohickon from 1772 – 1795. When
Roeller died in 1795, he was buried under the chancel of the Indianfield
church. Johann Ludwig Zirkle willed the land for the Little Zion
Lutheran Church of Telford, PA. Is this the Indanfield church? Can
anyone tell me about Conrad’s family and from where in Germany he
originated?
Can anyone tell me the descendents of John Peter Roller, native of
Erlangen, Bavaria, who came to this country in 1751? He first settled in
Lancaster, PA, later locating near Mount Crawford in the Shenandoah
Valley. He played a roll in the founding of Augusta Military Academy at
Fort Defiance. From Erlangen also came Conrad Roller, the associate and
friend of Muhlenberg (Is this Henry Melchoir Muhlenberg the famous
Lutheran minister?) A Conrad Roller, born Feb 1680 in Kuppingen,
Wurttenburg, married Magdelana Funck and died Jan 1742. Could this be
the same Conrad as above or possibly the father of the Lutheran Minister
Conrad Roller? A relative of possibly the same John Peter Roller was
Jacob Roller, born in Kuppingen, Germany July 1727, died 1804. Married
to Maria Agnes Hammer.
Is this the same person as John Peter Rollard, baptised May 29, 1730.
Arrived in Philadelphia on ship Richard and Mary on September 26, 1752.
His father was also John Peter Rollard, who married at Staudernheim,
Germany April 26, 1718 to Anna Christina Muhlberger, daughter of George
Muhlberger at Oberhausen, Oberamt Meisenheim. The elder Rollard was
buried at Staudernheim, Mar 4, 1733. The elder John Peter Roller’s
father was Ludwig Rollard. In 1718 - Anna Magdalena Rollauer, daughter
of Ludwig Rollauer and widow of Johannes Schndott (?) married Simon Jacob
Cron on Aug 30, 1718 at Staudernheim. She died Sept 11, 1734 and was
buried in same town. Could this be the daughter of Ludwig Rollard and
the sister of John Peter Rollard? Are these the German relatives of the
Virginia Rollers?

Sat Dec 20 13:44:38 1997
E-mail: Steven W. Bacon
Query: BACON
I am from a branch of the family that settled in East TN in the 1790s.
The patriarch of this branch of the family (at least so far) is Isaac
Bacon who was born in 1754 in Maidencreek Township, Berks Co., PA. Isaac
served as a
private in the PA militia during the American Revolution. I'm trying to
identify his parents. I have found that a Jeremiah bacon lived in Berks
Co. in the mid-late 1700s and so might be some relation. There is
indirect evidence to indicate that he was related to a James Bacon (m.
Magdalena
Neuman in Berks Co, 1793) who also moved to TN during that timeframe.
To date, I have found no evidence of a link to the New England Bacons or
to the Bacon family that first entered the U.S. via Norfolk VA in the
late 1700s.
Currently, I suspect a link to a small group of Bacons that first entered
the country in the mid-1600s and settled on land just off the Delaware
River at Salem, New Jersey in a place called Bacon's Neck. This might
make sense as Maidencreek Township is directly on the navigable waterway
(Delaware to Schuylkill) just above Reading PA.
Please contact me if you have any information that might be relevant.
Thanks,
Steve Bacon

Query: Is anyone familiar with Berks Co. Quaker records?
The identity of one of my ancestors, Maria Magdalena HAMM who m. 1774
Joh. George HECKMAN of Alsace Twp., might be found in Quaker records. M.
Montgomery's biography of the family states that she was "...a woman of
foreign birth...who had accompanied her parents to America when quite
young. For many years she lived in a Quaker family, and when she was
grown to womanhood she adopted the Quaker style of dress." My
hypothesis is that M. Magdalena may have been orphaned as a child and was
raised by the Quaker family. Would anything such as that be likely to
appear in Quaker records? Which Quaker records should be checked? The
only location clue I have is that she married someone from Alsace Twp. in
Berks Co.
Any suggestions or help will be appreciated.

Query: I am researching the BARTH and BENSEMAN families
of Berks County, PA.
A Dr. Ernst Herman BENSEMAN emigrated from Bremen,
Germany and was naturalized in Berks County circa 1797.
His wife was Maria Magdalena [surname unknown], and they
had a daughter, Laura Lucretia BENSEMAN who married a
Michael BARTH from Erlach, Bavaria, Germany.
As BENSEMAN's profession was a physician, would there be any
professional or city directories that might mention him.
I would be interested in communicating with anyone else
researching these families or who could help identify
information sources about doctors at that time.
