August 17, 1996; from David Becker; (benhur@pond.com) I am very interested in the PA Project as I have many families who have been in PA since before the War of Independence. Most of my families have their origins in Berks County.....Although most of my research has been centered on Northumberland County, the families I am tracing (BROSIUS, SCHNEIDER, HOCH, BORDNER, etc.) originally settled in Berks County. Does anyone wish to exchange information? Dave has a large database and is excited about the counties project.

August 19, 1996; from Linda Lewis; (cityslic@ix.netcom.com) Some of my ancestors, on my maternal grandmother's side, came from Blair Co., and possibly Berks before that. I'm hoping that's the same JOHN GIBSON (b 1810) who is in our family Bible and who lived in Blair Co. Does anyone have any information?

August 21, 1996; from Kathy Dix; (kfdix@ibm.net) I'm a descendant of WILLIAM COLEMAN, bc 1756, and CATHARINE (LOEB) COLEMAN. WILLIAM COLEMAN operated a stagecoach line from Philadelphia to Reading and probably took mail. He was honored by being the first to cross the Penn St. Bridge, where his son, GEORGE, worked as the toll-collector (at that time or soon afterwards). WILLIAM COLEMAN also operated the Eagle Hotel until he died c1815(?). His wife CATHARINE (LOEB) COLEMAN lived and operated the hotel until c1826. Many of my grandfather GREIM's relatives were at this reunion, including Sarah WEBER (above) who was then aged 92 years, so it seems likely that Peter WEBER was a descendant of Johannes Heinrich Weber. However, I have been unable to find Peter's parents. Does anyone have any information on Johannes Heinrich WEBER's descendants; anything would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

September 1, 1996....Thomas J. Walker.....ridge@mail.telis.org I have been researching William Walker whom I found in Catholic Trails West, by Barbara O'Keefe (Berks County Genealogy Society and the Berks County Historical Society both have this document). According to O'Keefe and Adams this William, a blacksmith, worked at a forge owned by Christian and William Butz in Hereford or Coalbrookdale Townships about 1777. I have found this William and the Butz' on the tax records in Hereford Township. William had married Mary Siegfried at Blessed Sacrament in Bally, and had about a dozen children before they moved on to Tanneytown MD about 1785. Mary Siegfried died in Tanneytown, MD (Conewago), where, in 1814, William married Mary Costigan, the sister of Jacob Walters The Walkers and Walter families followed the Finks and Dittoes on to Somerset, OH where William died 1822. This William, my three-times great grandfather, came from somewhere in New Jersey as did his father. William's grandfather came to Rhode Island about 1660. William may have come from Ringwood, NJ with iron workers solicited for work in Berks. Our family oral and written history indicates that William was an officer in the cavalry during the Revolution, but I have not been able to place him, given this information. He was not listed in the Berks County listings with Butz brothers or others. He may have served in New Jersey but I have not yet identified him there. Anyone who has any information regarding this William Walker, the Walters, Butz, and Costigan families, or has suggestions regarding where he might have served in the Revolution, or who would like more information about what I have, please contact me at the above address. Thank you.

WURTZ/WERTZ/WERTS/WIRTS/WIRT/WORTS, Anna Maria (Mary Ann); b. 30 NOV 1819, Bucks or Berks County, PA; m. circa 1838-40 to Peter BAUER in ?PA?; d. 8 JUL 1857 in Washington Twp, Brown Co, OH. I'm trying to trace my gg-grandmother, Anna Maria WURTZ. I'm hoping to find some record of her birth, marriage, and especially the names of her parents. Here's what I know so far: Her husband, my gg-grandfather Peter BAUER was born 20 MAR 1801 in Thaleischweiler-Froeschen, Rheinpfalz, Germany (actually France at the time). He first married 3 MAR 1829 to Charlotta WOLF in Thaleischweiler- Froeschen. Two children were born in Germany to this marriage, Christian BAUER (1830 - 30 AUG 1831) and Peter BAUER Jr (31 MAR 1832 - 29 MAR 1903). The family emigrated sometime between Peter Jr's birth in 1832 and the birth of the couple's third child Jacob BAUER, 7 NOV 1834 (christened in Jordan Lutheran Church, Whitehall Twp, Lehigh Co, PA on 15 NOV 1834). The couple had a 4th child somewhere in PA, John BAUER (b. 11 JUL 1838). Sometime after the birth of John in 1838, Charlotta WOLF died (date and place unknown). Peter Bauer next appeared in Washington Twp, Brown Co, OH circa 1840. By this time he had remarried to Anna Maria WURTZ. The 1850 census shows Peter Bower (b. GER), his wife Mary (b. PA), Peter Jr (b. GER), John (b. PA), and five children born to this 2nd marriage: Caroline (b, 1841), Charlotte, Daniel, Jacob and Adam (all b. OH). The third son of the first marriage, Jacob BAUER had apparantly died by this time (date and place unknown). Peter and Anna Marie went on to have a total of nine children in addition to the two children, Peter Jr and John, from Peter's 1st marriage. Anna Marie (WURTZ) BAUER died in childbirth 8 JUL 1857 in Washington Twp, Brown Co, OH. She is buried in the old German Reformed Cemetery in Arnheim, Brown County, OH. Her headstone indicates that she was born in B--ks County, PA. From the stone it is impossible to read whether it is Bucks or Berks County. In the 1820 and 1830 census indexes for PA I have found several WURTZ, WERTZ, WERTS, WIRTS, WIRT, WORTS in Berks, Bucks and Lehigh Counties, but since only head of household names are listed, I have no idea if any of these could be related to Anna Marie WURTZ. I would be interested in hearing from anyone with info on the names WURTZ/WERTS (and the other spellings) in Bucks or Berks Counties, PA. Any information on Anna Maria WURTZ's birth place, parents names, date and place of marriage to Peter BAUER or other possible leads such as the place of John BAUER's birth in PA, the date and place of Charlotta Wolf's death in PA, or any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to locate vital records for these persons, I am hoping the orphanage records will provide some leads.
