FORTS

  • State House, the former official residence of the Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania, is located on the grounds. Fort Indiantown Gap Military Reservation  is protected by a full-time police force.
  • This is a list of military installations owned or used by the United States Armed Forces both in the United States and around the world.
  • Fort Mifflin During the American Revolutionary War, the British Army bombarded and captured the fort as part of their conquest of Philadelphia in autumn 1777. In 1795, the fort was renamed for Thomas Mifflin, a Continental Army officer and the first post-independence Pennsylvania governor.
  • built by British forces between 1759 and 1761 during the French and Indian War at the confluence of the Monongahela and Allegheny rivers, where the Ohio River is formed in western Pennsylvania (modern day Pittsburgh). It was near (but not directly on) the site of Fort Duquesne, a French colonial fort built in 1754.
  • Following a series of attacks during the 1750s by Indians, colonial government leaders began receiving petitions from hundreds of those settlers for protection. In response, the Province of Pennsylvania spent eighty-five thousand pounds to erect a chain of blockhouses and forts along the Kittanning Hills from the Delaware River to the province's border with Maryland.
