"The leader of the band was Alonzo 'Lon' Matteson. Lon played for inaugurals of some Presidents, also with bands in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Erie, and Olean - wherever he was asked first.

Willie Patchen, who was one armed, played the big Brass Drum. Archie Taylor played the Snare Drum. He couldn't march so when they needed to, they got a Lobdell, a Civil War drummer, from Garland. Charles Newman, Harry Johnson and Alton Pitt were on solo and first cornet. Paul Kafferlin and Chris Rounds were on second cornet. Chris was a brother-in-law of Nels Christensen. Therol Matteson played the slide trombone. Will Morton played the valve trombone. Walter Lamona played the upright alto horn. Clarence Lamona played the upright alto horn. Dr. Paige played the B flat baritone clarinet, Crawford Brundage played the E flat bass. Dr. Paige was a graduate of Buffalo Conservatory of Music."

As told to Lillie Henry Tubbs, by Alton Pitt, revived by Betty Matteson Rhodes.
