Surrounded by homes, this small country cemetery sits perched at the crown of a hill and is sometimes referred to as the Indian Hollow Cemetery.
Driving directions from the Hickory Street bridge in Warren (about 2.5 miles; 7 minutes): Drive east on Pennsylvania Ave W/US-6 (business route) to Market Street. Turn left on Market Street and drive four blocks to West 5th Avenue. Turn right. Check your odometer - from this point the cemetery is only 1.9 miles . As you cross Conewango creek, West 5th Avenue turns into East 5th Avenue. Follow the narrow road out of Warren, passing on the left Warren High School (not visible from the road, but there are school zone road signs). At the top of a hill, on the left, the cemetery sits unobtrusively behind old maple trees and sandwiched between homes.
There is no easy vehicle access to the grounds, particularly if you are unfamiliar with the location. Best to carefully turn around further down the road and park on the gravel berm just before reaching the cemetery. There is also a very small grassy lane, just large enough for a car to pull in, just as you reach the beginning of the grounds. Backing out, however, can prove tricky given the limited visibility.
A stroll through the cemetery...
While situated on a hill, the grounds are almost level and very well-maintained.
Many family members with the surname Wentz are buried on this edge of the cemetery.
Frederick Wentz came from Alsace, France.
