Clearly visible from the highway, Loomis Cemetery is a small active cemetery located just south of the village of Grand Valley on US 27. The grounds are on a curve on the east side of the highway, so it's possible to speed right by the cemetery before you see it. Parking is tricky: there is a chain across the entrance, so you cannot pull off the highway into the cemetery.
The well-maintained grounds are surrounded by woods. While there are some newer gravestones, there are many more older stones.
Driving directions from the Hickory Street bridge in Warren: (about 27 miles, 35 minutes) drive west on Pennsylvania Ave W/US-6 (business route) along the Allegheny River. US Hwy 62 will join with US 6 before you leave Warren. The highways will become a free-access 4-lane. Drive through Starbrick, west to Youngsville (where PA 27 will join with US 6), and on to Pittsfield where US 6 will split with PA 27. Stay on PA 27 through Garland and on to Grand Valley. Drive to the south end of the village. The cemetery will be on the left. Look for the sign mounted on white posts straddling the entrance road and flanked by a number of big pine trees.
Do not attempt to make a left turn into the grounds from the highway because there is a chain across the gravel road into the cemetery. Because the cemetery is situated on a curve on a high speed road, it would be best to turn around further south on PA 27 and retrace your route back to Loomis. Carefully pull off onto the berm alongside the cemetery - there is limited space due to a guard rail.
Take a stoll through the cemetery...
