Garland Presbyterian Cemetery, also known as the Presbyterian Cemetery at Garland, is a small active cemetery located, obviously, in the village of Garland.
The sign is located at the junction of Rt. 27 and Hamilton Road |
Driving directions from the Hickory Street bridge in Warren (about 17 miles; 25 minutes): go west on Pennsylvania Ave W/US-6 (business route) along the Allegheny River. US Hwy 62 will join with US 6 before you leave Warren and the highways will become a free-access 4-lane. Drive through Starbrick and continue west on US 6 through Youngsville and on to Pittsfield. There the road will branch. Bear left on to Rt. 27 which will take you to the village of Garland.
Just after crossing the bridge over the Big Brokenstraw Creek, turn right on Hamilton Road. The white cemetery sign, above, is just beyond Hamilton Road - you may spot it too late to make the turn.
Once on Hamilton Road, the entrance to the cemetery will be just down the road on the left.
Take a stroll through the cemetery...

||
This narrow gate is the only entrance to the grounds. The plaques on the stone columns read Garland Presbyterian Cemetery Association. |
||
Just inside the gate you can bear either left or right on the grassy gravel road to follow a circle around the grounds. |
||
Drive straight in to go through the middle of the cemetery and almost to the end of the property. There the road will bear left, and join back into the circular route. |
||
Most of the gravestones are old.
Large gravestone, right foreground: Goodwill
Nearby are 4 smaller stones with family names: Ralph (1887-1955), Daisy (1885-1972), Arelda (1918-1942), Betty (1923-1929). |
||
There are no shrubs or trees in this rectangular cemetery.
Large stone: Sarah Bristow
1842 - 1925 | ||
Nor do the surrounding businesses add to the beauty.
Name on the bench: Martin.
|
While the cemetery grounds are completely fenced, the rusted wrought iron is in bad repair, in places falling over. The grass had been mowed, but weeds surrounded many of the stones and flourished along the fence. |

In the foreground, a stone for Edna F. Irwin 1880 - 1933 |

Behind it on the left, Audrey Papalia 1920 - 1998 |
