"Herald of Truth" was first published in 1864 by John F. Funk of Chicago, Illinois (first few years) and then of Elkhart, Indiana. In 1907/08 the newly formed Mennonite Publishing Board bought the magazine from Funk, combined it with the "Gospel Witness", which a group in Scottdale, Pennsylvania had published - April 5, 1905 to March 25, 1908, to create the "Gospel Herald". From 1908 to 1998 the "Gospel Herald" was published by Mennonite Publishing House (MPH), Scottdale, PA. as the official church paper of the Mennonite Church (MC) to assist congregations scattered all over North America, and in several overseas countries, with doctrinal issues, business and administrative issues, and family and community issues.

Herald of Truth February 1866 - Vol. III, No.2 Page 16, page 14 On the 31st of October, 1805, in Somerset township, Somerset Co., Pa., Susanna, consort of Joseph Gashaw, aged 59 years, 8 mos., and 14 days. Her maiden name was Stutzman. She was buried on the 2nd day of Nov. A funeral discourse was delivered by the writer from 1 Thess. 4: 13-18. She was a faithful member of the Omish Mennonite Church, until called to the future world, where we hope she will meet the Savior, in mansions above, where all tears shall be wiped from her eyes, and where there shall be no more sorrow, nor pain, nor death.

ABNER YODER. Herald of Truth December 1866 - Vol. III, No. 12 Page 100 On the 28th of September, in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, Esther, wife of the aged brother and minister Jacob Blough, aged about 70 years. She was buried on the 30th. Affecting funeral addresses were delivered by Christian Lehman and Abraham Stutzman. SAMUEL BLOUGH.
