The Perry Historians Library is located on Route 34, between Newport and New Bloomfield, Pa., two (2) miles from the square of New Bloomfield, or four (4) miles from Newport.

They are a VOLUNTEER organization concerned with the heritage of Perry County as revealed through the lives of individuals and their families.  They are actively preserving and organizing the source materials and representative artifacts relative to the GENEALOGICAL HISTORY of Perry County and surrounding areas. 
It should be noted that the Perry Historians receives no public funding.

The Perry Historians is open EVERY Wednesday, 9am - 9pm; (exceptions: day before Thanksgiving, December 22 and 29 - or - if a major holiday OR  there is inclement weather).  If you are planning to visit from a distance, it is suggested that you call ahead, being as the dates below are subject to change.  Their phone number is:  (717) 582-4896 (please call only on the dates/times they are scheduled to be open).

Special Events:

Sunday, February 28th at 2:00pm:  Mr. Richard Geidel will be speaking on the Wallis Site Dig, located nr. the Wallis Family Homestead along Rte. 11/15 at Liverpool.  He served as Project Manager for the archaeological excavations of the Wallis Site.  Artifacts dating back 1000's of years were found at this site showing pre-historic occupation during periods when the Susquehanna River was at a lower height than present-day.
This is a FREE presentation that is open to the Public.  ALL are welcome!

PARTIAL LISTING OF RECORDS:

Church RecordsCopies of all extant Perry County Church records, and translations.  Also have copies from other counties, and several originals.
Newspapers:  All known files from 1820 and upwards are on microfilm.  They are being indexed.
Tombstone Inscriptions:  All Perry County burial grounds have been copied, including several that have been destroyed; german stones have been translated.  Also have records for surrounding counties.
Census Records:  Complete collection for Perry County on microfilm; also various years for various other counties on microfilm.
Mortuary Records:  Original records for 2 funeral homes; microfilm records of another; access to cemetery burial records.
Court Records:  Deeds, probate, vital statistics, tax lists, civil & criminal cases for Perry, Cumberland and Juniata Counties.
Land Survey Drafts:  Originals from the late 1700's to the early 1900's.
Printed Works:  Large collection of genealogical, biographical and historical publications and reference works.
Family & Subject Files:  Approximately 8,000 files that are arranged by surname and subject.  Also, a card catalogue containing c. 800,000 cards.
Photographs:  Large collection of photos; people and various places/scenes.
Taufschein Collection:  (Birth/Baptismal Certificates), almost 100, plus publications containing about 1,000.  These supply a date/place of birth and usually the mother's maiden name.
