AT MERCER

Proposed Soldiers' Monument Will Be Located at County Seat

At the organization of the Mercer County Soldier's Monument Association in Pittsburg, during encampment, a resolution was passed instructing the officers and executive committee to call a meeting to decide on the location of the proposed monument.

This meeting was held here, Friday afternoon.  The posts represented were 

         Mercer - M. C. Zahniser

         Sharon - W. S. Baker

         Greenville - W. H. Beil

         Grove City - J. A. Bolander

Jamestown, Sharpsville and Sheakleyville sent no delegates.

After considerable discussion Mercer was chosen as the place for the monument and each post in the county will begin at once to collect funds.  The intention is to erect a creditable monument, but not make the too-common mistake of getting a monument so expensive it can't be paid for.  Mercer post has donated $200.

The officers of the association are:  President, Harry Watson, Greenville; vice presidents, Jonas Pierce, Sharpsville; J. A. Gilmore, Grove City; secretary, C. M. Derrickson, Mercer; treasurer, Samuel C. Dickey, Greenville; executive committee:  W. S. Baker, Sharon; A. B. Filson, Mercer; A. H. Burnett, Greenville; S. T. Bell, Sheakleyville; Chas. Renningbrew, Sharpsville; W. H. Malony, Jamestown; A. Glenn, Sandy Lake.
