SCOTT
A. ROBINSON, real estate and old line life and fire insurance agent,
doing an extensive business in these three lines at Sharpsville, is a
native of Orangeville, Mercer county, Pennsylvania, born December 9,
1857, a son of Thomas C. and Josephine (Carnes) Robinson. Thomas
G. Robinson was born in Huntingdon township, Huntingdon county,
Pennsylvania, and died aged sixty-one years, June 28, 1891.
The
wife and mother was born in New Castle. Pennsylvania, and now resides
at Sharpsville, aged sixty-eight years. Of this Union there were five
Sons and two daughters: Scott A., Charles S., William V., Margaret J.,
Minnie E., Harry W., Frank C. The last named lost his life July 8,
1899, by an accident with electricity. The father of this family was by
trade a carpenter and followed it up to 1884, when he engaged in the
furniture and undertaking business, in which he was engaged at the time
of his death.
He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church,
his wife and himself uniting with this denomination at Sharon in 1869.
He was a member of the Ancient Order of United Workmen and in politics
a Republican.
Spending his boyhood clays at home with his
parents, Scott A. Robinson attended the common schools in Sharon and
Sharpsville. He later learned the carpenter's trade and that of
draftsman and patternmaker. He was also a traveling salesman for the P.
Weyhrich Company, manufacturers of agricultural implements. He followed
tills from 1881 to 1888, then returned to Sharpsville and engaged in
business with his father and brothers, who carried on the furniture
business up to 1904, at which time he embarked in the real estate
business, coupled with insurance, also attending to the office of
justice of the peace, having been appointed by the governor.
In
his religion Mr. Robinson is Protestant and is connected with the
Methodist Episcopal church. He is also a member of the Masonic
Fraternity, belonging to Sharpsville Lodge No. 517, F. & A. M.,
having been made a Mason in Empire Lodge No. 126 at Pekin, Illinois. He
is now a past master of his lodge. He has advanced in Masonry to the
chapter degree, belonging to Norman Chapter at Sharon, No. 224 of Royal
Arch Masons. He was made a Royal Arch Mason at Pekin, Illinois. He also
holds membership with the Odd Fellows order, Adoniram Lodge No. 739.
Mr.
Robinson was married September 18, 1883, to Ida L. Jones, born in
Sharpsville, July 24, i86o, a daughter of Sanford B, and Henrietta
Jones. The father died in 1882 and the mother is now residing at
Sharpsville. They were the parents of twelve children - six of each sex
- Benjamin, Anna, Charles, Dora, Ida L., Orrilla, William, Clara,
Frank, Margaret, Ellis, Ernest. The father of this family was a
blacksmith and followed his trade at Sharpsville up to the time of his
death, except while he served his country. He entered Company C, Sixth
Regiment of Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, as a corporal of his company.
Politically he was a Republican. He carried a policy in that most
excellent beneficiary order - A. O. U W.
The children born to
Mr. and Mrs. Robinson are: Edna J., wife of Jonathan Redford,
Sharpsville: Vernia, Almar and Eveline McFate Robinson is an adopted
child.
