LOUIS BUCKHOLZ,
general clothier, was born in Prussia, Germany, December 29, 1887, and
is a son of Joseph and Rebecca (Loewenstein) Buchholz, natives of
Germany. The former died there in 1867, and his widow is a resident of
Berlin. Louis was educated in his native land, and in the fall of 1856
immigrated to Warren, Ohio, where he clerked three years. In the autumn
of 1859 he started in the clothing business in Ravenna, Ohio, in
partnership with the late Jacob Goldstein. In the spring of 1863 he
located in Sharon, and has since been one of the leading business men
of the borough. Jacob Goldstein continued in partnership with him up to
his death, in August, 1882, at which time Mr. Buchholz became sole
owner of the business, though still retaining the old firm name of J.
Goldstein & Co. Mr. Buchholz was married, July 7, 1864, to Miss
Lizzie, daughter of the late William McGilvray, of Sharon. Three
children were born of this union: William, Joseph and Edward. His wife
died May 14, 1877, and he was again married, June 25, 1884, to Miss
Mary, daughter of the late Thomas Clark, one of the early settlers of
the valley, whose widow, Mrs. Nancy Clark, resides on the old homestead
near Sharon. Politically Mr. Buchholz is an unswerving Democrat, and
one of the well-known enterprising citizens of the borough, where he
has lived twenty-five years.
