JOSEPH BYERLY,
wagon manufacturer, post-office Sharpsville, PA, is a son of Andrew and
Ruth (McDowell) Byerly. He was born in April, 1837 in
Pymatuning Township, and was educated at the common schools. He
was taught the trade of wagon manufacturing, serving his time
with S. Runser, of Hickory Township, and was employed for three
years, after he served his time, in the shops of Sharon, Pittsburgh,
and Warren, Ohio. In 1859 he established himself in business in
Pymatuning Township, and is engaged in the manufacture of wagons and
buggies and general blacksmith business. In 1862 he engaged in
the livery business in Sharpsville, which he conducted, in connection
with his manufacturing business, for fourteen years. Our subject
was married in 1859, to Miss Sophia, daughter of Henry Lightner, of
Huntingdon County, PA and to them have been born six children:
Maud, Elizabeth, Mrs. Justice Hum, of Sharpsville, Palenia, Ruth,
Harvey, and Mary. Our subject is a member of the
A.O.U.W. lodge of Sharpsville, and is also a member of the Baptist
Church of that borough.
