D.
R. P. ZAHNISER, farmer, post-office North’s Mills, was born July
8, 1838, in Mercer County, to David and Ann (Coulson) Zahniser. The
former was born April 19, 1795, and died October 14, 1874; the latter
was born May 21, 1798, and died June 20, 1850. Their children were:
Matthias, born September 20, 1819; Lint, born December 2, 1821; William
W., born September 16, 1823; Jacob W., born June 22, 1828; Eleanor,
born June 24, 1829; Aaron, born July 10, 1831; Thomas, born May 6,
1833; Mary M., born December 9, 1835, and D. R. P. The parents were
members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and the father was a
Democrat. D. R. P. received a common-school education, and was married
February 9, 1875, to Mrs. Josephine Osborn, the widow of William
Osborn, who died July 9, 1872, and was the father of James, born
November 13, 1866; Plummer, born August 18, 1867; John, born December
10, 1869, died in 1870, and William F., born January 28, 1872. Mrs.
Zahniser is a daughter of J. L. Byers, and was born February 9, 1847.
The father of our subject was for many years a blacksmith by trade, and
by economy was able before his death to give his son 100 acres of
arable land, on which he now resides. He and wife are members of the
Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and he is a Republican.
