Wheeler:
Oliver Wheeler, b. ca 1784-86 in CT, purchased property in Hempfield
Twp in 1826. He lived there until his death in 1840.
Oliver
was married to Sarah Freeland (daughter of Garrett), but she was his
second wife, according to a handwritten note on the original deed,
which indicates that Oliver "by my first wife had lawfull issue".
Oliver
probably lived for a time in New York before moving to Mercer Co
PA. Some of his children were John, Louisa, Oliver Jr, Minard and
Charles. I'm seeking to identify his first wife and children, as
well as his ancestors.

Nancy
Dunlap was the daughter of Rev. James Dunlap who was said to be
President of Canonsburg College. At the time he was President it
was called Washington College or Washington and Jefferson
College. This would of been in the late 1700s or early 1800s.
Rev. Dunlap also had a son William who was a Presbyterian minister
ordained in 1809 while on a missionary trip to Canada. He was born in
1782 and died in 1818 at age 36. Before his death he served the as
Pastor for the Presbyterian Church at Abington. While there his elderly
parents and their daughters Nancy and Elizabeth came to live with
him. While there Nancy met Jonathan Williams Butler whom she
would marry. Jonathan and Nancy moved to a place near Mercer in Mercer
County Pa. They had children they Named Nancy and Elizabeth before
Nancy Dunlap Butler died. I do not Know the year, but Jonathan married
a widow named Anne R. a year later. She had some children of her own,
but they had Harriet, Marie Albertine, and Courtland Butler after they
were married and before they moved to Spragueville, Ia. I would like to
Know who the Rev James Dunlap was married to; what Boyer Elizabeth
Butler married and if there were any Lieby's that might have married a
Boyer named Sadie. Another interesting bit of information is that
Nancy's had a sister, Sarah, who married a Presbyterian minister named
Stephen Boyer who was the first minister at the First Presbyterian
church at Easton, ordained November 7 1811. Could the Boyer that
Elizabeth married be a relative of the Rev Stephen Boyer? |
