The
Presbyterian church,
at Milledgeville, The only village in [French Creek] township, was
organized by a committee of the Presbytery of Erie, April 8th, 1856. John
Rice and William R. Cooper were
elected ruling elders, and served in that capacity until the 24th of
October, 1858. During the first years of its existence, it was supplied
by the Presbytery—Revs. M’Cune, Semple,
Shields, Eaton, Gleson, Alexander, Coulter, Wilson, and McCullough,
preaching at different times, generally once in four weeks. Rev.
J. G. Condit preached as State supply from January, 1860, to
August 14th, 1864, and from October 1st, of that year, until the same
date of the following year, Rev. John Rice,
of the |

Presbytery of
Saltsburgh, supplied the congregation. Rev. H. B.
Lambe was then ordained pastor, and was followed, in the summer of
1867, by Rev. David Patton, who left during
the following year, since which the church has been furnished with
supplies, and has bad no regularly installed preacher. A building was
erected in 1861, 35 x 42 feet in dimensions. There were seventeen members
at the time of the organization, and there are now about thirty-five.
