post office at Milledgeville was established as Deer Creek Post Office
August 3, 1839. On May 1, 1852 the name was changed to
Milledgeville.

Deer
Creek Post-office was
established about 1845, at the house of William R.
Cooper, and was subsequently removed to the village, in which C.
Long, who named the place, was the first postmaster. This, and the
office at Carlton Station, are the only ones in the [French Creek]
township.
